The Employees' State Insurance scheme provides medical care and cash benefits to employees and their families during sickness, maternity, disablement and employment injury. It is run by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation. Establishments with 10 or more employees in areas where the scheme has been notified must register. Employees earning up to ₹21,000 a month are covered, and both employer and employee contribute each month.

Vibence helps employers register with ESIC and get ready for regular compliance. Qualified professionals from the Vibence partner network check whether the scheme applies to your establishment, file the online registration and help you obtain your 17-digit employer code. We also explain how to register employees, issue e-pehchan cards and file monthly contributions so your team can access benefits when they need them.

ESIC Registration for Employers: FAQs

Who needs to register under ESIC?

Establishments covered by the ESI law that employ 10 or more people in areas where the scheme has been notified must register with ESIC. This includes many factories, shops, hotels, restaurants and service establishments, depending on state notifications. Once covered, an establishment generally stays covered even if headcount falls later.

Which employees are covered by ESIC?

Employees in a covered establishment whose gross wages are up to ₹21,000 a month are generally covered. A higher limit applies to persons with disability. If an employee's wages rise above the limit during a contribution period, they usually remain covered until that period ends. We help you identify which employees must be enrolled.

What are the ESIC contribution rates?

Currently, the employer contributes 3.25 percent and the employee contributes 0.75 percent of the employee's wages. Employees earning below a specified daily average wage are exempt from paying their own share, though the employer still contributes. Rates are set by the government and can change, so we confirm the current rates during onboarding.

What benefits do insured employees get?

Insured employees and their dependants can receive medical care through ESIC dispensaries and hospitals, along with cash benefits during sickness, maternity, temporary or permanent disablement due to employment injury, and benefits for dependants after a death from employment injury. Eligibility for some benefits depends on contributions paid.

What happens after ESIC registration?

After registration, you register each eligible employee to generate their insurance number and e-pehchan card. You deduct the employee's share from wages and pay contributions monthly through the ESIC portal. You also update records when staff join or leave. Our ESIC return filing service can manage this for you each month.
