An e-way bill is an electronic document needed to move goods under GST. It is generally required when the value of a consignment exceeds ₹50,000, whether the goods are moving for a sale, a return, a job-work transfer or between your own branches. Some goods and movements are exempt, and a few states set their own rules for movement within the state. Moving goods without a valid e-way bill can lead to detention of the vehicle and penalties.
Qualified professionals from the Vibence partner network help you register on the e-way bill portal, set up users for your team or transporter and prepare e-way bills from your invoices. They check the details that most often cause trouble, such as HSN codes, distances, vehicle numbers and validity, and guide you on extending, updating or cancelling a bill. You get a simple, repeatable process your dispatch team can follow.

GST E-Way Bill Services: FAQs
When is an e-way bill required?
An e-way bill is generally required when goods worth more than ₹50,000 in a single consignment are moved, whether for sale, return, branch transfer or job work. Certain goods and modes of movement are exempt, and states may notify their own limits for movement within the state. Checking the rules for your goods and route before dispatch avoids problems in transit.
Who is responsible for generating an e-way bill?
The registered supplier or recipient who causes the movement of goods is usually responsible for generating the e-way bill. If they do not, the transporter can generate it on their behalf. When goods are sent by an unregistered person to a registered buyer, the buyer may need to generate it. The person in charge of the vehicle must carry the e-way bill number.
How long is an e-way bill valid?
Validity depends on the distance the goods travel and the type of cargo. It is counted from the time Part B with vehicle details is first entered. If goods cannot reach the destination in time because of a breakdown or other genuine reason, the bill can usually be extended within a short window around expiry, subject to the rules on the portal.
Can an e-way bill be cancelled or changed?
An e-way bill can be cancelled within 24 hours of generation if the goods have not moved or the details are wrong, provided it has not been verified in transit. Vehicle details in Part B can be updated when goods are shifted to another vehicle. Other errors usually require cancelling the bill and generating a fresh one with the correct information.
What is the penalty for moving goods without an e-way bill?
Moving goods that require an e-way bill without one can lead to detention or seizure of the goods and the vehicle, along with tax and penalty proceedings. The amount depends on the facts and the provisions applied. Even small errors in a bill can trigger questions during inspection, so accurate details matter as much as generating the bill on time.
