Filing an income tax return is how you report your income, claim deductions and settle your tax for the year. It is required when your income is above the basic exemption limit, and in several other cases such as high-value deposits or foreign assets. A filed return also serves as proof of income for loans, visas and tenders. Getting the right form, regime and disclosures matters, because errors often lead to notices or delayed refunds.
Qualified professionals from the Vibence partner network prepare and file returns for salaried individuals, people with capital gains or other income, proprietors, partnership firms, LLPs and companies. They match your income with Form 26AS and the Annual Information Statement, compare the old and new tax regimes where you have a choice, and file only after your approval. Tax audit fees and digital signature certificates are not included and are quoted separately where needed.

Income Tax Return Filing: FAQs
Who must file an income tax return?
You must file a return if your total income before certain deductions exceeds the basic exemption limit. Filing is also required in some other cases, such as holding foreign assets, making large cash deposits or incurring high foreign travel or electricity spending. Companies, LLPs and partnership firms must file every year, even if they had a loss or no income.
What is the due date for filing an income tax return?
For individuals and others whose accounts do not need an audit, the due date is generally 31 July after the end of the financial year. For businesses requiring a tax audit and for companies, it is generally 31 October. Dates can be extended by the government, so the professional handling your return confirms the applicable date.
What happens if I miss the due date?
You can usually file a belated return by the later deadline set for the year, but a late filing fee and interest on unpaid tax may apply. Some losses cannot be carried forward if the return is filed late. After the belated deadline, an updated return may be possible in some cases with additional tax payable.
Which ITR form should I use?
The form depends on who you are and the types of income you have. Salaried individuals with simple income often use ITR-1 or ITR-2, while those with business income use ITR-3 or ITR-4. Firms and LLPs use ITR-5, and companies use ITR-6. Using the wrong form can make the return defective, so the form is chosen after reviewing your income.
Are tax audit fees and DSC included?
No. The return filing service covers preparation and filing of the return. If your business needs a tax audit, that is a separate engagement carried out by a practising CA and quoted separately. Companies and certain other taxpayers must verify their return with a digital signature certificate, which can also be arranged at an extra cost.
