Your GST registration must always reflect the current state of your business. If you move office, add a branch, bring in a new partner or director, change your trade name or update contact details, the registration has to be amended on the GST portal. Some changes, called core fields, need approval from the GST officer. Others, such as email, mobile number or bank details, can usually be updated directly. Leaving details outdated can cause problems during notices, refunds and inspections.
Qualified professionals from the Vibence partner network review what has changed, identify whether it is a core or non-core amendment and file the request in Form GST REG-14 with the right supporting documents. Where you want to move out of the composition scheme into the regular scheme, they handle the opt-out filing and guide you on the compliance changes that follow. A dedicated GST professional stays with you until the change is reflected on the portal.

GST Registration Amendment: FAQs
What is the difference between core and non-core GST amendments?
Core fields are the legal name of the business, the principal and additional places of business, and the details of partners, directors or other stakeholders. Changes to these need approval from the GST officer. Non-core fields include contact details, bank account information and similar items, which can generally be updated without officer approval once the application is filed.
Can I change my legal business name on my GST registration?
You can amend the legal name only when the name has actually changed with the same PAN, for example after a company name change approved by the Registrar. The legal name on GST must match the PAN records. If the PAN itself changes, such as when a proprietorship becomes a company, a fresh GST registration is required instead of an amendment.
Is there a time limit for amending GST registration?
Any change in the particulars of your registration should be reported on the GST portal within 15 days of the change. Filing on time keeps your records accurate for invoices, e-way bills and refunds. If you have missed this window, it is still better to file the amendment as soon as possible and keep the supporting documents ready.
How do I move from the composition scheme to the regular scheme?
A composition taxpayer can opt out by filing the prescribed application on the GST portal, either voluntarily or when turnover crosses the composition limit. After moving to the regular scheme you must charge GST on tax invoices, file regular returns and may claim input tax credit on eligible stock held on the day of the switch, subject to the rules.
What documents are needed for a GST address change?
For a new principal or additional place of business you generally need proof of address such as an electricity bill, property tax receipt or ownership document. If the premises are rented, a rent agreement is needed, and for shared or family-owned premises a consent letter from the owner. Photographs of the premises may also be requested during verification.
