Your Import Export Code must always reflect the current details of your business. If your address, bank account, partners, directors or business name change, the IEC record on the DGFT portal should be updated. DGFT also requires every IEC holder to update or confirm their details online once a year, generally during the April to June window, even if nothing has changed. Missing it can lead to the IEC being deactivated.

Vibence handles the modification for you. Qualified professionals from the Vibence partner network review your current IEC profile, identify what needs to change, prepare the update on the DGFT portal and help you complete verification. You receive the updated IEC details once the change is accepted. If your IEC has already been deactivated for a missed annual update, we can help you bring it back to active status.

IEC Modification and Annual Update: FAQs

Is the IEC annual update mandatory?

Yes. DGFT requires every IEC holder to update or confirm their IEC details online every year, generally between April and June. This applies even if none of your details have changed, in which case you simply confirm the existing information. If the annual update is not completed, the IEC may be deactivated until the update is done, which can delay customs clearance and export payments.

What happens if my IEC is deactivated?

A deactivated IEC cannot be used for customs clearance or for trade-related foreign exchange transactions through your bank. In most cases, completing the pending update on the DGFT portal brings the IEC back to active status. Our partner professionals can check the reason for deactivation, file the required update and help you verify it so you can resume trading as soon as DGFT processes it.

Which IEC details can be modified?

Common changes include the registered address, branch addresses, bank account details, contact email and mobile number, business name, and the list of partners or directors. A change of constitution, such as a proprietorship becoming a company, usually requires a fresh IEC under the new entity's PAN rather than a modification. Our professionals will confirm which route applies to your situation before filing anything.

How much does an IEC modification cost?

The Vibence professional fee for an IEC modification or annual update is ₹1,499. Any government fee that DGFT charges for the change is paid separately. The fee covers reviewing your profile, preparing the update on the DGFT portal and guiding you through verification. If you need several unrelated changes at once, we will confirm the scope with you before starting.

Do I need a digital signature to update my IEC?

Not always. DGFT allows the update to be verified through Aadhaar-based OTP for many applicants, or with a Class 3 digital signature certificate of the authorised person. Companies and LLPs often find a DSC more convenient, especially when the signatory is not the person whose Aadhaar is linked. If you do not have a DSC, Vibence can help you obtain one.
